This was something I did years ago. My thinking was, hey, shouldn't everything have a mascot? At this time I had no idea of OS-tans or such, so I thought I was being original in coming up was a mascot for the Communist Youth League (USA), and might even have emailed them about the idea, I don't know. I think mascots are a great way to draw attention. Just look at Hikone (it's a city in Japan famous for its Hikone Castle) - they got some one to come up with a mascot for the castle's 500th anniversary, and sales of related merchandise have sold like crazy, and people will go to the castle just to see the mascot, Hikonyan, a white cat with a samurai hat. The castle is also host to a convention of sorts in which the multitude of city mascots from across the nation converge together for an event. Joe Camel was once better known amongst kids than Mickey Mouse. You can sell people on anything with mascots - Advertising with personality! I also came up with a mascot for The Communist Party (USA), Carmen Communista, but never did anything substantial with it. I wanted to get back to doing something with ink (I'm lazy, pencils are easier to do) also. My ideology has changed since, but I still like both characters.
